ÄTA SOVA DÖ – Eat Sleep Die

This Swedish film is actually part of the competition (not like the rest of the Swedish movies which are screened in the Sweden special “New world view”). The movie by Swedish director Gabriela Pichler depicts the hard life of immigrants in Southern Sweden, who – even if they speak fluent, flawless Swedish, like the Rumanian heroine Raša (Nermina Lukac in her first role ever) – get their job applications shoved aside as their names sound so strange. Raša of course manages to struggle through, powerhouse that she is, and thundering along she even manages to keep in contact with her closest friends and to take very good care of her father.
Verdict: A film worth watching. It is funny, at times moving and always very close to the real world. Maybe that is because the director happens to have first hand knowledge of factory work.
According to the website of the Swedish Filminstitute ÄTA SOVA DÖ will premiere in Sweden on Oct. 5.
