Zach Braff delivered a very touching and unbelievably funny dramedy which is an absolute MUST SEE for every geek (and all you normal people out there): WISH I WAS HERE is a movie about dreams and harsh reality, about family and love, about death and life, and it has everything, from Star Wars to Game Of Thrones, from a Rabbi on a Segway to a sunset in the desert. “I have those crazy ideas” sings somebody over the end credits, and I sit there and think about one or two continuity mistakes and about what this and that special effect might have cost the 46.560 supporters on Kickstarter mentioned in the credits, about why some dialogues sound a bit like theatre scenes (deliberately so?) … and then I think about that guy who told Pjotr Iljitsch Tschaikowsky that he put too many different themes into his work and I feel like a dork. There is so much poetry in this film, so much laughter, so much pain, so many great lines, like this one: “When things get tragic enough you circle back to comedy.” Amen! Or however the Jewish put it 😉
